Network users are strongly advised to use a client/server configuration. To achieve this the Firebird database engine should be installed on the server. The Firebird database software is available free-of-charge under the Interbase Public Licence agreement and a copy of the Firebird Server installation software is supplied with HearAid.

Use the HearAid Version 5.0 Installer to install the Firebird Database Server

If your server is running Windows NT, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Server, we recommend you run Firebird as a service; you should select that option during installation of the Firebird software

Once the Firebird Server and HearAid 5.0 have been installed on the server computer, run HearAid, select Tools|Options and enter
Either the network name or the IP address of your server (in the example shown, the server's name is "HOMER")
The network protocol you are using (TCP/IP or NetBEUI)
The name of the folder on the server where you installed the HearAid.fdb database file

If you are installing HearAid Version 5.0 on a network server, the Firebird Folder on Server, Database File on Server, and Backup Folder must refer to actual physical drive paths and not mapped network drives or UNC paths (for example, as shown in the red box in the image below, where HearAid 5.0 and Firebird were installed on drive C:)

If you are installing HearAid Version 5.0 on a network, the Report Template Folder, e-Claim Folder and Table SQL Folder settings must be UNC paths (for example, as shown in the green box in the image below, where HearAid 5.0 was installed on drive C: on the server with the network name "Homer")
