How Do I Install Software Updates?

HearSoft software updates are usually distributed as executable installation programs, or occasionally in compressed "zip" files. Simply downloading the update file does not install a software update; you need to do a little bit more!

If HearAid 5.0 is being run on a network, all updates MUST be installed on the server FIRST
After running an update installation on a server, a users MUST log in to HearAid 5.0 using the SYSDBA username and password to ensure that any database updates are also completed

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1.Download the Update file from our web site by clicking on the link on the Download page. When prompted to specify whether you want to Open or Save the download file, always click the Save button! Note the name of the file being downloaded (e.g. HA5011.exe or HAKey.zip) and save it to a location on your PC that you can find easily later… My Documents is usually a good place

2.Once the Download is complete, use Windows Explorer to locate the downloaded file and open the file by double-clicking on it. If you saved the download to My Documents, you can double-click the My Documents icon on your desktop and look for the file there

3.Exe Files: If the downloaded file is an executable file (i.e. has a .exe extension, such as HA5011.Exe), just double-click the file's icon and follow the installation instructions

4.Zip Files: These files contain an Installation utility which will actually perform the installation of the update on your computer system. If nothing happens when you double-click the zip file, you should install WinZip or some other Zip file utility;  you can download a copy of the evaluation version of WinZip from www.winzip.com. Installing WinZip will automatically "associate" the .zip extension with WinZip, so you can open Zip files by double-clicking them. WinZip is an excellent Zip file management utility and we highly recommend becoming a registered user. If you are using WinZip and it opens with the "Welcome to WinZip Wizard" window, click on the WinZip Classic button at the bottom left of the window. When the Zip file is opened in WinZip Classic mode you should see a button on the WinZip toolbar called Install; click that button to begin the installation utility. Alternatively, you can just double-click on Install.exe or Setup.exe in the WinZip. Most HearSoft updates will check to find where the program you are updating has been installed on your computer. Be sure to check that the Destination Folder in the Choose Destination Location window is set to the correct folder or directory file list.

Always read the Update Installation Notes!
